The blue true cottinga is a species of passerine birds from the Coting family.

The species is common in North and Central America. The bird is found in southern regions of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and possibly Western Panama.

Body length is about 19 cm, body weight ranges from 65 to 75 g. Birds have a small, rounded head, plump body and short tail. The male is bright turquoise in color, outwardly resembles a purple-throated real cottinga, from which it differs by the absence of a black ring around the eyes and the presence of a much larger area of ​​purple on the chest. The female is grayish brown with a pale underside.

The natural habitat of the species is tropical humid lowland and heavily degraded forests. Birds feed on fruits and insects in the upper layer of the forest.
