Moscow City Club of Song and Exotic Bird Lovers

Ringing problems and other everyday issues related to birds led me to Moscow City Club of Song and Exotic Bird Lovers.
A club with a long history, and after some lull at the moment, it is starting to gain momentum. Rings were ordered, an exhibition was held, forms were created and attempts were made to start breeding.
In general, all information can be obtained at http://mos-finch-club.jimdo.com... The location is temporary and it is planned to move to a new location soon http://mosbirdclub.ru/

Home breeding

This year achieved breeding from silver-billed finches (African silverbill).
The bird is rather unremarkable, judging by the pen, but the male has a rather attractive song. Sings often and very diligently.

Diluted in a closed box (German type) size 100x65x50. The birds sat well and fed themselves. But since there was no feeding experience, the first clutch was practically ruined by raising only one chick. They were fed only with grain mixture, sprouted grain and mash. Insects of any kind were ignored.

Wild form - Synodontis nigrita

West Africa, Nile, Niger, Senegal, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria.

Description

Size up to 16-22 cm. The color can vary from greenish to gray-black with dark contrasting spots the size of a pea, the abdomen is lighter. All fins have dark spots, and spots on the caudal fin are stripes.

A characteristic feature of this species is that there are no notches on the anterior part of the first ray of the dorsal fin. The caudal fin is bifurcated, the upper lobe is longer than the lower. Juveniles are coffee-beige with many black spots, including all fins. In adulthood, the color changes to green-brown with less dark brown spots. Brought out the golden form.

Content

Intra-clan aggression is observed. It should be borne in mind that he may come into conflict with other synodontists. This is due to the fact that in nature this species occupies a certain territory, but in an aquarium, due to the limited space, this condition is impracticable. Prefers to lead a solitary lifestyle. Sometimes floats upside down. In the general aquarium, only young fish can be kept; small fish will be eaten. Gets along well with African cichlids.

We need shelters (driftwood, shards, stones). The soil is soft, sand or silt. Powerful filtration and aeration, water change. Adult fish eat everything from minced meat to tadpoles. In cramped aquariums, with poor nutrition and care, the fish becomes smaller, not growing more than 10-12 cm. Ripens at 2 years. Live up to 11 years. dH 4-15 °, pH 6.0-7.5, T 21-26 ° C.
